responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice. >> reporter: police questioned a man who was injured and being treated in a boston hospital but investigators say he is not considered a suspect nor a person of interest. >> reporter: another aspect of this investigation, authorities were in a nearby town, the city of revere, massachusetts, just a couple of towns away from where i'm standing right now. they were searching an apartment, executing a search warrant. they were seen bringing out some evidence bags an putting them in cars. however, we don't believe there were any arrests from that search warrant being executed. live in boston, chris pollone, back to you. >> chris, we understand there is going to be a news conference soon. what are you hearing? >> reporter: that's right. police say their regularly scheduled update after last night will be happening athe 9:30 eastern coming up here just about an hour and a half now.

we expect to hear a lot more from police about what happened overnight with regards to this investigation. also, some updates on the conditions of those victims. more than 140 were treated. some eight are still in critical condition as far as we know. there were three fatalities. >> chris pollone, live from boston, thank you. in the wake of the boston tragedy, organizers of sunday's london marathon are reviewing their security. they say the event will not be canceled but they are working closely with london's metropolitan police to secure the race route. the head of the marathon says several contingency plans are in place but did not reveal any specific security measures 5:04. the number of bay area runners and their families witnessed firsthand the destructive power of that blast. they are giving in you details on the chaotic scene moments following the ploexplosion.

some of those that witnessed the attack will soon be arriving home. good morning, kristy. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. we plan to talk with people as they arrive in a couple of hours on that first flight this morning from boston to sfo. we are already hearing from runners from the bay area who were actually in boston running at the time when those bombs went off. people like joanna roland who kept running toward the finish line and all the chaos and confusion as the smoke filled the street. she says she saw someone carrying a woman in a wheelchair and that that woman had lost her leg. as you can imagine, there was complete panic. roland says her eyes darted back and forth as she tried to find her husband in the crowd. she eventually did. she couldn't get out fast enough. >> i had like 20 seconds. i ran to the finish line. as i was running to the finish line, i saw them carrying a woman in a wheelchair that looked like she had lost a leg. >> reporter: she tells us as sh

he flies back home to hayward with her family, she will be thinking about just how precious life really is. the things that she saw and felt. she says she just will never forget them. coming up in the next 30 minutes, we'll be talking about a person from the east bay who was there in boston and was injured. reporting live at sfo, christie smith, "today in the bay." thank you, kristy. our own terry mcsweeney touched down at boston early this morning. he will have reports all morning long starting at 6:00. we will, of course, continue to follow developments surrounding the investigation. investigators as we mentioned earlier will hold a news conference with the latest details in an hour and a half now. we will take you live to boston when that happened. closer to home to breaking news in the south bay. tragically, a little girl is dead. a toddler is injured after a fire in san jose's japan town. that fire broke out in a detached building next to a home on north fifth street where the girls were apparently sleeping.

"today in the bay's" marla tallez is live at that scene. she has the latest information. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are right in the heart of japan town in between empire and jackson street. in fact, we are right across the street from the japanese-american museum of san jose. the captain on scene just tells moo he that these two girls involved in this fire are sisters. also being told the coroner has been gone. the 7-year-old that died, her body has been removed. she was asleep in what's described as a detached unit behind this particular home on north fifth street. we are seeing family members come out of the home right now. joining me on scene is captain cleo doss. tell us what you know about how this fire started and the sisters, were they alone in this detached unit. >> at that time, the fire is under investigation. so we really don't know exactly how it started. what we do know is that the two

sisters were inside the detached structure and the mom had left for a few minutes and came back. she saw one of her daughters, the youngest, come out and she had some burns on her. she brought her into the home, tried to put the flames out and cool her from the burns and the grandmother went out and tried to grab the other little girl and the flames were too much for her. >> reporter: the call came in just before 11:30. the 7-year-old lost her life. the 4-year-old with minor burns. she is okay in the hospital this morning? >> yes, my understanding at this time she is stable. >> reporter: any word on this structure? it has been described to us as a tool shed converted into a living space. legal or illegal? >> that, i don't know. that will be for the investigators once they come up with their cause and go through all the findings, then we'll

have an answer. >> reporter: were they alone? >> you mentioned the mom was there temporarily. was she sleeping, spending the night with them inside the unit? >> yes. that's where she stays with the children. she went into the house to grab something temporarily. >>. >> reporter: that's when the flames erupted? >> yes. >> a lot of questions still need to be answered. we will stick with you and talk with you in a bit n san jose, marla tallez, "today in the bay." also knew this morning, investigators trying to find the cause of a three-alarm fire at a sunnyville strip mall. that erupted just before 10:30 at an indian restaurant on el camino real on wolf road. they battled past midnight to put out the flames at the lovely sweet and snacks restaurant. hazmat crews were called in after an auto shop was threatened by the fire. no one was hurt. >> you have to imagine all the windy weather to get those fires

out. let's see what's in store for tuesday. good morning. >> another round of strong wind anticipated, specially at the coastline. this rng montmorning, we are st out nice and chilly. 35 degrees in napa. 39 in petaluma. take you to the south bay where we have plenty of 30s. campbell, 38. 36 in santa cre teresa. the coldest morning we have had in ten days. winds are not at their strongest. they are going to pick up like yesterday. we are still getting pretty significant gusts at the coast. anywhere between 40-50 miles an hour from time to time. we will see more gusts as we head throughout the second half of the day. that is a very, very dry flow for us. temperatures are going to be comfortable.

the seven-day outlook shows at the same time. 101 not reporting anything like that. we are showing a nice, smooth drive. we will track this area. the maps in the south bay. slowing southbound 880. i told you construction crews had cleared around stevens creek boulevard. that was moving over to the shoulder as well. both of those issues over the last few minutes are what caused the slowing likely. that has cleared as the activity moves off to the shoulder. the rest of your south bay moves smoothly. northbound, your commute through the area. no problems here. overnight, we did have those wind advisories extended for the dumbarton bridge and san mateo bridge. this is what the chp is saying,

iran/pakistan border. the geological survey giving it a 7.8. the sququake striking early thi morning less than a week after another quake hit on the persian gulf coast killing 37 people 5:14. three teenagers accused of sex yulely assaulting los gatos, 15-year-old audrie pott, are going to be in court today. bob redell joins us live where the accused will appear at the courthouse. >> reporter: this will take place at 8:30. this will be the first court appearance for the three boys since their arrest this past thursday. this will be a custody hearing to see whether or not they need to still be detained here at juvenile detention. the family of audrie pott, the 15-year-old saratoga high sophomore the teens are accused of attacking. the family says they will be here to do whatever they can to make sure the boys are not

released during a news conference yesterday. her parents and stepmother announced they are filing a wrongful death lawsuit blaming the boys for audrie's suicide. she killed herself this past september her family believes out of humiliation. it was eight days prior to her death during a labor day party that the three teens, her friends at the time, allegedly sexually assaulted her. they wrote words on her body, took pictures and shared them with classmates, via text and e-mail. audrie expressed her horror in messages sent through facebook. >> i don't want to remember. it is a night i want to forget. i'm in hell. everyone knows about that night. the whole school is talking about it. my life is over. >> i asked repeatedly, what's wrong, you need to tell me. she just said, i can't do this. >> reporter: audrie pott is

asking for ten people that saw the pictures to come forward. the lawsuit that they had filed names the couple that owns the home in saratoga where the alleged assault took place. as for the three teens, pott's parents would like to see them charged as adults. it is unclear whether that will happen. bob redell. it is 5:16. our lead story today was the bombing at the boston marathon shaking up that city. that coming just as the nervous american market is coming to a clothes. scoot mcgrew is out there telling us about this. the dow yesterday having its worst day in years. >> things do look better today. let's get right to it and the markets. mary thompson is live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, mary. >> hey, scott, you nailed it. things do look better today. the futures are higher after monday's selloff which was the worst day for the markets in five months. investigators were worried about the health of the global economy following a report that showed that china's economy grew more slowly than expected in the

prior quarter. gold is bouncing back after posting its biggest decline ever. the precious metal has fallen more than 2$230 over the last to days. investigators will be focused on economic data coming out later this morning including consumer prices, housing starts as well as the numbers for industrial production. we had slightly better than expected earnings released from coca-cola as well as goldman sachs coming in with stronger than expected results. yesterday's session, the dow dropped 265 points, closing at 14,599. the nasdaq also taking it on the chin losing 78 points to finish at 3,216. scott, back to you. >> mary, thank you. yahoo! reports today as well. the sunnyvale company's stock has been on a terror as investigators put great faith in the relatively new ceo, melissa myer. the company's financial report comes after the closing bell.

google's comes thursday. shares were up 22% in 2013. 54% since miss mayer took the corner office. commodities, from copper to wheat, all much lower. it is important to remember, money has to flow somewhere. if it is not in stocks and gold and other commodities, where did it go? monday, the answer was it went into government securities. it makes it cheaper for governments to borough money. could make it cheaper for you to borough money as well in the form of mortgages if this lasts. we shall see. >> which will be interesting because the rates ar at all-time highs. >> one to watch. christina loren is back to talk about the weather. more wind? that's right. a lot more wind today. twint make sure everybody is ready for it. a lot of people that live along the peninsula were reporting

the case. this warrants another wind advisory. staying rather strong until tomorrow. high pressure builds in and this guy has a lot of energy. so we are talking about temperatures warming up into the 90s potentially as we get into the end of the week and the weekend in the warmest cities across the bay. enjoy the 70s while they last. 70, livermore. 70 san jose and 70 in los gatos. by tomorrow, we should start to see the levels drop off a touch by the end of the day. even more so as we get into the weekend and those winds really start to relax. 5:21. let's see how we are doing on your drive with mike inouye. >> reporter: it is a traffic tuesday. we are expecting a pretty good volume of traffic as we see. the slowdown has started. we are seeing that at the dublin interchange, west 580 approaching 680. 84, not a problem. a smooth drive through livermore right now. not so bad coming out of pass.

slowing through antioch. 20 miles per hour. a smooth drive through pittsburg and bay point. almost at the limit approaching concord. once you get through the toll plaza, you are fine. no wind advisories issued by the national weather service or by chp for the bay bridge. the san mateo gets a warning saying the high-rise might be gusty. palo alto peninsula, not a problem. a developing story going on in south san jose. emergency crews are there working on a hazmat situation at a pg&e substation. crews say the leak is contained to that substation. right now, they are working to clean that up. our chopper is on the way to the scene.

we will bring you the live pictures of course as soon as we get them. 5:22. new this morning, san francisco police trying to figure out who shot at officers overnight. around 1:00, officers approached a group of suspicious people hanging out at the indio basin shoreline park. someone shot at them. no one was hurt and police did not return fire. the chase ended at 9th and bryant with the total of eight people being detained. a funeral will be held for the south bay paramedic that was shot while driving in oakland hills on april 3rd. quinn boyer's family will hold a private funeral e was off duty whether he was shot at keller avenue before his car plunged down a ravine. oakland police say this is a homicide and are still looking for a suspect. not sure if it was a carjacking, robbery or perhaps road rage. the time is 5:23.

>> it is a criminal investigation that is a potential terrorist investigation. >> we will find out who did this and we will hold them accountable. >> we are going to get through this. as we take you live to san francisco, flags across the country are at half-staff, a sombre reminder of the terror at the boston marathon less than 24 hours ago. it is hard to believe it all happened. good morning to you. i'm laura garcia cannon. i'm jon kelley. three people are dead, more than 100 were hurt in the blast, at least 17 remain in critical condition this morning. we have learned overnight, police searching a home in suburban boston as part of this investigation but, so far, no arrests. >> at least three people, including 8-year-old martin richard died in the attack. this is a picture of the youngest victim just into our newsroom. >> there is at least one person from right here in the bay area who was hurt in that blast. that is a young boy in martinez. >> we take you live to bogs tst

just outside of one of the medical centers. we are waiting to hear word on the very latest on the investigation. if they have any leads on any suspects right now, we will, of course, continue to monitor this for you. we can also tell you, bay area runners and their family members witnessed that explosion up close and personal firsthand. they are now giving details on the chaotic moments following that blast. "today in the bay's" christie smith, live at san francisco international airport where some runners will soon be arriving home. good morning. >> reporter: friends are already sharing stories of people who were injured in boston near the marathon when the bombs went off, including a young boy from martinez, his father is the football coach at alhambra high school. they were in boston to watch the mom cross the finish line.

he was injured by vshrapnel. he was waiting to take pictures of his mom when the bombs went off. he is turning 12 years old. he was rushed into surgery with a leg injury. here is what occurred. >> he is out of surgery. no major vessels were injured. the news that they would have to be there for a while yet. >> they sent an update about her son, that aaron is in the icu but is stable, many lacerations, mostly supervision, except for one. his left thigh needs more surgery. he will be in the hospital for at least 7-ten days. i wanted to mention that

"today in the bay's" marla day y joins us where she spoke to the victim's grandmother. >> reporter: this story will absolutely break your heart. we just spoke to the grandmother, martha gal vin. she tells us her granddaughter,

7-year-old mariah angel gomez, died in these flames. her other granddaughter, a 4-year-old, is at the hospital, taken to the hospital with minor burns. she is expected to be okay. this is what we have learned so far, that these sisters were living in a detached unit behind this home on north fifth street in japan town with their mother, cecilia. they were in this attached unit behind the home. the mother was trying to put the girls to sleep. the mother went back into this main home you see behind us on north fifth street where her parents went, where the great grandparents live in the home in front. when she came back out, the little girl, the 4-year-old girl's hair was on fire. we are hearing it was a candle or perhaps an electrical cause. of course, the fire investigators have to ultimately determine the cause of this fire. we understand according to the grandmother that the great grandfather rushed into the detached unit to save both little girls. he managed to save the

4-year-old but the 7-year-old did not make it out alive. the call came in just before 11:30. the firefighters did the best they could. they came down here and knocked out the flames within ten minutes. they did a good job. again, 7-year-old mariah angel gomez pronounced dead at the scene. we have just received our first look at this little girl. we will be showing that to you in our next live reports. the cause is under investigation. for now, we are live in san jose, marla tallez, "today in the bay." >> at 5:35, we have new details this morning regarding a separate deadly house fire in another part of san jose a few blocks from o'connor hospital. firefighters say overnight, they found the body of a second person inside the home on daniel way. they don't know if it was male or female. ear earlier, crews found a dead elderly woman in the flames. it made it difficult to fight the fire that broke out about 8:30 last night.

people accused of killing a millionaire during a home invasion robbery expected in court. the three men and two women are set to enter their plea. they are being tried as a group for the november 30th death of ravi kumra. the two women are suspected prostitutes that had been at his home. they believe they gave information to the three men that helped them break into the home and kill him. three boys accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl who later killed herself will appear in court. the 16-year-old boys were arrested and charged with sexual battery for allegedly assaulting 15-year-old audrie pott at a party last fall. the family attorney says she killed herself after a photo of the sexual assault was sent by text message and e-mail to at least ten students at the school. the three teens will be in court for a custody hearing at 8:30. bob redell will have a live report on what could happen in

welcome back, this is a live picture from boston, massachusetts, bringigham and women's hospital. three people died and hundreds others injured. this deadly explosion, two of them, at the boston marathon, now leading to tighter security all around washington. tracie potts is live with more details on how law enforcement is responding to this big-time attack a shiftdown at the white house, more officers around the capitol and in the train and bus station as a result of what happened in boston. lawmakers want to know, what happened, who was behind it,

what are we doing about it. they will get that briefing later this morning. the fbi and other agencies, counter terrorism officials, the intelligence community, homeland security coming here to capitol hill to give key lawmakers an update on this investigation. president obama got an update. he was up overnight getting one. he gets another update telling aides to keep me posted and make sure that resources are getting where they need to go in boston. now, there was a huge event that was planned here today, emancipation day, big event in washington with a parade, a gospel concert. d.c. officials say despite what's happened there, despite the stepped-up security here, those events are still on. jon? >> tracie potts, thank you very much. we will continue to follow this story all morning long. it was a scene out there in boston. our very own terry mcsweeney will be live in that city.

keeping an eye on the upcoming investigate. expecting an update in the 6:00 hour. >> 5:43. >> as tracy mentioned, the gang of eight will roll out the immigration bill. lawmakers say the bill will be filed today but without fanfare out of respect for the victims and families in the explosion in boston. the bipartisan bill will place the 11 million people in the country illegally on a path to citizenship. part of the bill would take steps to secure the border. it would create a new legal immigration system that would offer merritt visas to the tens of thousands of high-tech and low-skilled workers that u.s. employers want to hire. in the meantime, former congresswoman, gabby giffords, returning to capitol hill. she is receiving a plaque honoring a former aide that died. that gunman killed five others and seriously wounded gifford

during a town hall meeting. giffords has been in the forefront lob bying congress to enact stricter gun laws. the efforts to overhaul america's gun laws may be in jeopardy. a growing number of senators have come out against the bipartisan plan for expanded gun checks. one state aide says there are talks to alter the plan to offer exceptions for gun buyers who live hundreds of miles from licensed firearms dealers here at home, a california senate committee is getting ready to look at two bills aimed at strength then go the state gun's laws. they will vote on two bills proposed by san francisco senator, leland yee. sb-47 would clothes a loophole that ye says currently allows shooters with certain weapons to continuously fire and reload without interruption. sb-108 would require all firearms to be safely stored

pink. just about everywhere across the bay area at noon today, starting to get struck by the really strong gusts. as we head through 5:00 p.m. the wind strength thens even more so. we will start to see a drop off and head through the overnight as high pressure moves in and we get a more stable atmosphere. this has a lot of energy and it will warm us up rapidly. a return of the 80s in some cities. 70 degrees in livermore and 70 in the low 80s for thursday into friday. by the end of the weekend, we could be touching on the 90s yet again. let's talk to mike about your drive. we are going to take you outdoors. we have a new crash. reports of the crash sounds like all the activity is moving off to the shoulder quickly. that's a troubled spot if there is anything going on. castro valley y, very smooth.

"today in the bay's" terry mcsweeney joins us live. what have you seen? >> reporter: good morning to you. 9:00 here in boston. what i've seen is a mile-long crime scene right here on wellston street where the bombs went off yesterday. this is probably one of the safest streets in the united states, heavily armed police, s.w.a.t. members and national guard members are also out here protecting this area and the citizens of boston, because no one exactly knows who did that yesterday. they don't know what could happen today. this is boyleston street. as you can see, it was sealed off shortly after the attacks. it is frozen as it was yesterday afternoon. you can see the garbage on the street. there are some hand bags as

well. take a look right now at an aerial view, a haunting one, indeeti indeed, of the finish line at copley square. the area cordoned off since the bombings, still a crime scene. police everywhere with their weapons ready. hopefully, that won't be necessary. there is some hope that this was not that organized, the group that pulled this off. the bombs that went off are considered to be homemade bombs and had the explosives have been stronger, it could have been far worse. boyleston street is where the two bombs went off after 17 runners finished. thousands more were coming down the street headed toward the finish line. the bombs were about 100 feet apart and detonated 12 seconds apart. more than
